Juvenile Justice Summit

Orange County Juvenile Justice Summit 2015: Inspiring HopeJJS

The County of Orange is presenting a Juvenile Justice Summit that brings together key city, county and state leaders, police chiefs, and other community stakeholders representing the 34 cities in Orange County. The primary goals for the Summit are to provide a forum where participants will hear presentations about the Juvenile Justice System and its impact on Orange County, as well as to provide  opportunities for leaders in similar positions to exchange ideas regarding its impact on the local community. Center faculty Jodi Quas and Elizabeth Cauffman will be special guest speakers at this summit.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye was sworn in as the 28th Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court on January 3, 2011. Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye has more than 20 years of service in the appellate and trial courts and, as the leader of the judicial branch in California, has been innovative in achieving greater transparency, efficiency, and equal access to justice. Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye is dedicated to juvenile justice issues and has launched the California Keeping Kids in School and Out of the Court Initiative, as well as the Power of Democracy promoting partnerships of state and local organizations focusing on  civics literacy and positive educational outcomes for youth.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKERS: Linda Penner (Board of State and Community Corrections) – Overview of the Juvenile Re-alignment and the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI). Dr. E. Cauffman and Dr. J. Quas (UCI) – Experts working with maltreated and delinquent youth.

PANEL DISCUSSIONS: Human Trafficking, Victim/Survivors, Cyber Bullying/Sexting, Mental Health Needs and Truancy Reduction.
